TAA obuituary challenge.

Image
Hi guys!  Here's a challenge started by Emily Krings, owner of Tea Addicts Anonymous.  Here's her own  obituary . The point of this obituary challenge is to make us reflective about the kind of legacies we want to leave behind. Here's my attempt. Tell me what you think in the comments below. Please just ignore the photo. This was the best I had.                                 David Ojo He cared very  little about other people’s opinion of him. In his opinion, it was pointless to constantly obsess over every opinion and be driven like chaff in the wind. When someone dies, they’re forgotten very quickly.  Unless one is a ‘Van Gogh’, whatever one manages to achieve will fade away into nothing in a century give or take. An obituary would be forgotten even more quickly. Instead, what he wanted, is to live forever in the hearts of people. He preferred to leave legacies that would periodically remind them of him. He wa

The Woodworker

What makes a man stay up for hours on end absorbed in some task? The straight answer to that question is passion. And I have some real-life examples/demonstrations of passion around me. My father is a classic example. A scholarly man, who is also ironically a craftsman. Artisans are usually regarded as less than their contemporaries because they usually work with their hands. This prejudice while unfounded is perpetuated because most people who are artisans are usually unskilled  (referring to a lack of a college education thereof). But even as far as artisans are concerned, there is an elite group that has separated themselves from the crowd. Painters, designers, visual artists, photographers e.t.c.All of them, craftspeople. But because of the visual orientation of today’s media, these people are respected because the work they do is invaluable. My father is a paradox. A highly gifted academician, and a visually oriented one at that. He had a college education. Not the wate

The Two Chickens

Image
With Christmas time approaching, we bought two chickens, and the strange thing about them was that they both had very different personalities. You might think I’m loony when I say this, but I’m not. They looked like twins the two chickens. They both were a creamy color, with brown bands around them, and they had all the fluffiness associated with chickens. And for the life of me, I couldn’t decipher which one of them was male or female, and honestly, I couldn’t care less. They both had combs though. When we bought them, we put them in a passageway that acted as some sort of landing. To the right of the passageway, there was a flight of stairs leading down to the ground floor, and we put both chickens on either side of the passageway so that there would be room for us to pass. You see the first one was uptight and very skittish. Whenever I came near it to take some water out of the barrel where we keep water (as it was kept very near it), it would rise quickly from where it

NICHOLAS

You see Nicholas and I have always been at loggerheads. Right from when we first met.  Our rivalry has always had this subtle undertone of an intangible war. Nicholas was the quintessential alpha male. He is quite well to do, very handsome, and has the body of Apollo himself. He literally had all the girls fall head over heels for him. Then I came along. While I’m not so well off, and I don’t have the body of Apollo, I’m incredibly funny and charismatic and know how to light up a group. Nicholas immediately saw me as a threat. Whenever I would crack jokes that made everyone fall on their bellies holding their sides. In a bid to undermine my attempts at being jocular, he would just be meh. I would try to be friendly with him, and he would be unyielding and cold as ice. He would always try to put me down in a subtle way, and whenever he would try, I wouldn’t give him the time of day, and we would go into som

Why you should read more often in 2019

Image
Never before has it been so easy to access information. With the advent of the internet, there has been an exponential increase in the consumption and output of information in the form of blog posts articles in digital magazines, you name it. And some still find a way to do as little reading as possible. The importance of information (or knowledge), cannot be overemphasized. Knowledge is what helps us live better, think better, and indeed help us make better decisions. While I do agree that everyone is different, and processes information differently, I’m also inclined to make an argument in favor of reading. Reading helps us form opinions about things, helps us come into another person’s experience(s). It helps us broaden our horizons, and transcend cultural, social and geographical boundaries. We are empowered through reading. History is made available to us through reading. I wonder then why we do not read as often. Because of my background, and the opportunities

How to be successful in business

Success. Everyone wants it, but it seems to elude many. I quit my 9-5 in a bid to start my online business and haven’t been so successful. I’m going to share some of my mistakes with you so you can avoid them. 2018 has been a very enlightening year for me. I have learned a whole lot of things, as a result of some of the mistakes I’ve made. I read a post the other day and paraphrased, the post read “May we not see our contemporaries and hide our faces” That should be enough motivation for anyone to succeed. Here are some of the things that greatly hindered my progress, and what you can do to avoid them. INADEQUATE PLANNING I was excited by some of the things I saw online. They implied that anyone could be successful in the freelance industry. Of course, I know (now that I’ve done proper research), that it’s all a marketing strategy. They add reviews and tell their own success stories about how they make thousands of dollars in income every month. I was hooked

How To Get Ahead at Work

I will send a mail on your ass!! My supervisor, who I grew fond of with time, would always say that whenever she was threatening. Whenever she would direct it to me, I would try very hard not to laugh, because I always wondered what the mail would be about. There’s nothing interesting about my ass. It’s like a brick wall. Unlike the ones (intentionally or unintentionally) I’ve had the privilege to come in contact with, which are so soft to the touch, and invariably transport one to another dimension. The corporate world is a cut-throat place, where only the fittest survive. A place where the cabals rule undefied. Okay, maybe the scenario is not as serious as I paint it.  However, statistics say that only 50.8% are happy at their jobs. Couple minimal job satisfaction with relatively low pay, overly long work hours, office politics and you’ve got a recipe for an excruciating experience. Here below are some tips to help you surv
